February Birthstone - Amethyst


Amethyst belongs to the Quartz family of minerals and is most known for being the February birthstone. The chemical composition of Amethyst and white or natural quartz is the same, in fact they are one and the same. Amethyst gains its color due to small amounts of elemental impurities locked within the quartz mineral during formation. Amethyst color can range from light purple or green to deep Purple depending on the amount of impurities locked within the quartz mineral.
